Decorating with lanterns

This past weekend we had the honor of hanging lanterns for a bride in the large tent at the Marriott Griffin Gate. At our first meeting the bride brought me some pictures she found of a wedding with a large number of lanterns clustered over the dance floor. We planned to do a grid of lanterns over the dance floor with lights in some of the lanterns and fill in the remaining space with just unlit lanterns. We ended up using about 105 lanterns over a 20x20 dance floor.

Paper lanterns can really make a statement in both large and small rooms.  We recommend using larger lanterns to fill a larger space.  This location is a private horse farm in Lexington, KY, the space is a large horse arena.  We only used 6 lanterns over the dance floor, but they are each 4 feet round.

In this large gym we used 30" and 24" lanterns along with drape to bring the ceiling down and create a more romantic feel for a reception.

Even a space with a low ceiling can be decorated with lanterns.  This is the Signature Club in Lexington, KY. We used 3 diffferent colors of lanterns and made a long row across the dance floor.

Lanterns can also be hung in a wedding tent, both with and without lights.

Lanterns come in all colors, a range of sizes and shapes.  We would love to decorate your wedding space with lanterns!

My projects this week

If you are reading this, then you have found my big project. For the last 2 weeks or so, I have been working on upgrading our website.  It has been a lot of work, but I think it is looking good.  Please feel free to comment if you find any mistakes, errors, broken links, other problems or if you just don't like something.  I am still working on an inventory with photos, but I think that is going to be an ongoing project.

Project #2 - apple green pintuck table cloths.  I need to get some pictures up of these table cloths!  I ordered the fabric over the summer and just now finished.  I need to order another roll of fabric to make more. For now I have 9 - 120" and 7 90x90" squares done.  Can't wait to use these for an event!

Project #3 Burlap!  I have had multiple request for burlap table cloths and runners for events this year.  I have tons of burlap so I am pulling out all of the pieces getting ready to make runners and overlays.  I hope to have these finished by next week. I'll keep you posted.

Remember that we make custom cloths, so if you find that special fabric you want to use let me know.

Finding us on the Web

As I am working to update our website I decided to do a search for us in the photo section.  I was surprised to find one of our photos on another blog.  When I clicked the blog I remember an email from the blogger last May.  She was asking me about ceiling drapes and if I would write a blog about them.  With it being the busy Wedding season of May, I just didn't have time.  I send her some infomation and didn't think about it again until I ran across her site again today.

I was very happy to see that she quoted me along with some other decorators and gave credit to all the photos she used from flickr.

Check it out here. http://www.weddingdecoratorblog.com/2010/05/decorating-the-ceiling-with-fabric/

Billy and Robyn 11/7/10

For Billy and Robyn's reception we turned the high school cafeteria into a great reception hall. The wedding colors were white, orange and a touch of black. The ceiling was draped in orange taffeta fabric and white twinkle lights. A backdrop of white fabric and lights was put up behind the head table to block off the hall way into the school. Seating tables with white linens and black chair ties. Table center pieces of black metal lanterns with tea lights.

Shanna & Jonathan 8/14/10

I had the pleasure of helping my friend Stephanie with the reception for her daugher and new son-in-law. A barn on the family farm was cleaned and pressure washed to serve as the venue for the reception. The beams of the barn were wrapped with twinkle lights. Paper lanterns in pink, black and white were hung down the center of the barn over the head table and dance floor.

Stephanie and Shanna added lots of unexpected details to the decor. Be sure to check out our facebook page to see more of this awsome barn reception!
